It’s with great pleasure the Boroondara Cricket Club congratulates Jake Fraser-McGurk on being selected to play for the Victoria 1st XI in the Shield game against Queensland at the MCG. Jake played right through his junior years with the Boroondara Cricket Club starting as a 9 year old and played every year in our A teams from Under 12A’s in the 2011/12 season through to Under 16A’s in season 2017/18 over 7 seasons. Through his early junior career Jake was also representing the ECA & up to Victorian level. By the time he reached 15 he was representing Victoria & Australia at junior level. In Jake’s top age year of Under 12A’s in 2013/14, he was Captain & the team won the Premiership, his batting was excellent making 417 runs @ average of 139 runs.

In the same season on the 16/11/2013 ( only 6 years ago ) Jake played his first senior game for the 4ths as an 11 year old against Wyclif at Highfield Park (top oval). The Club had to seek special permission for Jake to play due to his young age as it was outside the ECA’s Rules. On playing that game, Jake bowled 5 overs 2 for 7, unfortunately no runs. But it was the beginning of his wonderful senior career to date. At the end of the season he also played in a winning 4th XI senior premiership side still as an 11 year old. A senior photo from that season is attached with young Jake front row, 2nd from right.

Jake also played seniors the following year playing many games with his father, Les in the team as well. Again the 4ths played off in the Grand Final and just fell short by 9 runs of winning with Jake stranded on 43 not out at the other end when the last wicket fell.  That was the innings we knew here was a talent. As a 12 year old he faced a genuine quick bowler & did it with ease, hitting 9 boundaries in his innings.

There are many junior career highlights that could be discussed but not many better than this! In his last season of Under 16’s in 2017/18 at Victoria Rd. Reserve against North Balwyn he hit 101 retired not out off only 35 balls. There were 29 balls scored off & included nine 6’s & eight 4’s. There were a few fences jumped that night in retrieving the balls. Scorecard attached

There are many junior awards that Jake has won with the Cobras including Junior Champion, in 2017/18 in his last junior season he not only won the award a second time but also won the Dave Dickie Award for the best junior in the ECA competition.

Victorian U13 Captain - TRIPLE HAT-TRICK!

When ringing his parents, Jake & Charlotte tonight to congratulate them, they are just so excited for tomorrow. When I  commented to Les, “Hey Les, those 1 million throwdowns were worth it.” Les responded with, “Try over 2 million!!” Then we both laughed. “oh well, the buggered shoulder was worth it”

Those of us senior people at the Club who have seen Jake play his junior career ( and some seniors )  with the Cobras are so proud of what he has achieved so far. To Les & Charlotte such wonderful down to earth people we are all so happy for you, this is indeed a proud moment for you both.

Jake, on behalf of the whole Boroondara Cobras community we hope you have a great memory representing Victoria, we wish you all the best in the game & for the future, we hope there are many more games to come. Les & Charlotte – simply ENJOY.
